BEST RESTAURANTS MAP CREATED FOR HOUSTON

🌮 Not sure where to eat tonight? The Houston Chronicle’s food team built a map that helps you find some of the best restaurants around the Houston area. Just enter an address and see recommended spots nearby, based on the Chronicle’s restaurant guides.

The map covers a wide stretch of the region, from Montgomery County down to Galveston. It includes favorites like sushi, barbecue, and pizza. As critics visit new restaurants and update their guides, the map will update too, helping locals discover great places to eat close to home.

TSA WORKERS CALL OUT CAUSING STAFFING SHORTAGE

✈️ Spring break travel got off to a rough start at William P. Hobby Airport this week. More than half of scheduled TSA officers called out during a two-day stretch, leaving fewer workers to screen travelers. As crowds grew, security lines stretched through the terminal and some passengers waited up to three hours.

Busy travel periods can make the problem worse. When many passengers arrive but fewer security lanes are open, wait times climb fast. Airport officials say the best move for travelers is simple. Arrive early and give yourself extra time to get through security.

HOUSTON BEFORE AND AFTER IMAGES REVEAL A DECADE OF FAST GROWTH

📈 The Houston area has changed fast over the past decade, and new satellite images show just how much. The Houston Chronicle compared older and newer views of places like Fulshear, Bridgeland, Conroe, Atascocita, Iowa Colony, and Colony Ridge to show where open land gave way to neighborhoods, roads, and lakes.

It is a strong reminder of how quickly the region is growing. The project lets readers scroll through before and after images and explore an interactive map to see how development has reshaped the outer edges of metro Houston since 2015.

HARRIS COUNTY PROPERTY TAX PROTEST TOOL LAUNCHING THIS APRIL

💵 Many homeowners feel stuck when property tax bills arrive. A new tool launching in April aims to help Harris County residents protest their property taxes without hiring a consultant. The guided platform walks you step by step through the protest process using appraisal district data and real property comparisons.  It will be called TXTAX Texas Property Tax Protest Tool.

The goal is to make the process simpler and more affordable. The tool helps homeowners review property details, compare nearby values, and prepare a stronger protest case if a hearing is needed. For a flat one-time payment, homeowners can use the system to challenge their appraisal and possibly lower their tax bill.

ITALIAN ENERGY COMPANY OPENING U.S. HEADQUARTERS IN THE WOODLANDS

🤝 A new headquarters is coming to The Woodlands. AB Energy USA, the U.S. arm of an Italian energy company, has signed a lease for 11,000 square feet at 9950 Woodloch Forest Drive. The move fills the last open space in the 31-story office tower that was once built for Anadarko Petroleum.

The company plans to begin moving in during the second quarter of this year. AB Energy USA also expects to add 45 jobs in 2026, with more hiring planned in the years ahead. Leaders say The Woodlands offers access to energy industry talent and a strong place for employees to live and work.

CENTURY OLD HOUSTON HOME IN WOODLAND HEIGHTS HITS THE MARKET

🏠 A rare piece of Houston history is now up for sale in Woodland Heights. The home at 411 Bayland Ave. was built in 1910 and has been owned by the same family for the past 36 years. Listed at $2.75 million, it sits on a 10,000 square foot double lot, a size that is hard to find in the inner loop today.

The house blends historic charm with modern comfort, from its wraparound porch and original pine floors to its updated kitchen, four bedrooms, and guest quarters. It is also part of one of Houston’s oldest neighborhoods, giving the next owner a chance to enjoy both a home and a piece of the city’s story.

TEXANS OFFENSIVE LINE PLANS COME INTO FOCUS AFTER FREE AGENCY MOVES

🏈 The Texans have made one thing clear this week. Fixing the offensive line is a top priority. Houston brought back Trent Brown, re-signed Ed Ingram, and added Braden Smith after missing out on guard Elgton Jenkins. The moves show the team is active, but also how hard it is to land top linemen when demand is high.

Houston still has work to do, especially at guard. The Texans are expected to keep looking in free agency so they do not head into the draft with an obvious hole. For now, the message is simple: the team knows protection for C.J. Stroud has to get better.

DYNAMO GREAT BRIAN CHING JOINS HOUSTON SPORTS HALL OF FAME

Brian Ching is getting one more well-earned Houston honor. The former Dynamo star has been named to the Houston Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Ching helped lead the Dynamo to back-to-back championships in 2006 and 2007 and still stands as the club’s all-time goals leader.

His impact went far beyond the field. Ching chose to stay in Houston when he had the chance to leave, and he also gave back through charity work with Habitat for Humanity. For many fans, this honor feels like a fitting thank you to a player who truly made Houston home.

THANKS!
