HOUSTON’S NEWS

BEST WAYS TO ENJOY SPRING IN HOUSTON RIGHT NOW

🌻 Spring in Houston is the sweet spot before the real heat takes over. Locals use this time to get outside, eat well, and enjoy the city while the weather still feels good and the calendar fills up with fun things to do.

Some favorite spring picks include:

  • Walks at Memorial Park and Buffalo Bayou

  • Crawfish boils, Rodeo fun, and the Art Car Parade

  • Farmers markets, gardens, patios, and spring festivals

It is also a smart time to plant wildflowers, stock up on allergy medicine, and refresh your storm kit before hurricane season. Spring in Houston does not last long, so this is the time to soak it in before the long summer stretch arrives.

BUSH AIRPORT SECURITY LINES COULD TOP 4 HOURS THURSDAY

🕐 Houston travelers may want to leave extra early Thursday. Officials say TSA wait times at George Bush Intercontinental Airport could stretch past four hours as more people fly in for major events across the city.

Airport officials also warned travelers not to pay anyone to hold a place in line. Passengers should stay with their bags and check official airport wait time updates online. Extra staff and screening help have been brought in, but long lines are still possible.

HOUSTON LIFE’S TESSA BARRERA SIGNS OFF MARCH 31

👋🏽 Houston Life viewers will soon say goodbye to Tessa Barrera. After three years on the show, Barrera said she is stepping away and her final day will be March 31. She said she wants time to reset, be more present in her personal life, and spend more time helping her family.

Barrera joined Houston Life in July 2023 and became a familiar face to many Houston viewers. She said she hopes to still pop in from time to time, so this may not be a full goodbye forever.

Good luck to Tessa!

SIMONE BILES OPENS TASTE OF GOLD RESTAURANT AT IAH

🥪 Houston travelers now have a new place to grab a bite at Bush Airport. Simone Biles’ first restaurant, Taste of Gold, opened March 24 in Terminal A near Gate A8. The café serves sandwiches, salads, shareables, desserts, and its signature Simone Skewers.

The new spot gives travelers a local place to relax before a flight. It also adds fresh energy to Terminal A, with sports on TV and original art inside. For Houston, it is one more sign that hometown pride can show up in everyday places, even at the airport.

HOUSTON FACES ILLINOIS TONIGHT WITH ELITE EIGHT ON THE LINE

🏀 Houston is back on the big stage Tonight, with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line. The Cougars face Illinois at Toyota Center, and most experts quoted picked Houston to win. The big reason is simple: defense. Houston’s path looks clear if Kelvin Sampson’s team can slow down Illinois and keep its shooters from getting comfortable.

This one sets up like a classic strength vs strength game. Illinois can score, but Houston has the kind of defense that can change everything. Tipoff is set for 9:05 p.m. on March 26 on CBS, giving Houston fans one more big reason to stay up and cheer on the home team.

JEREMY PEÑA AND BRICE MATTHEWS MAKE ASTROS OPENING DAY ROSTER

The Astros are heading into Opening Day with a big boost. Jeremy Peña made the roster after recovering from a fractured fingertip, giving Houston a full-strength lineup for Thursday’s opener against the Angels. Prospect Brice Matthews also earned a spot after a strong spring.

Now the question is how Houston will juggle all that talent. Peña’s return gives the Astros more options in the infield and Matthews adds even more flexibility with his ability to move around the field. For Astros fans, that is a strong way to start the new season.

I have a really good feeling about the Astros this year.  Get excited!

THANKS!

🌹 It is Thursday, which means you still have time to make this week count. Handle one thing you have been putting off, then knock out the rest of those tasks one by one.
