HOUSTON’S NEWS
Chase Ends in Deadly West Houston Crash
A high-speed police pursuit early Wednesday morning ended in a tragic fatal crash in west Houston. Houston police officers were chasing a stolen vehicle around 4 a.m. when the pursuit ended on the Highway 6 overpass above Westpark.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. Officers successfully detained two other suspects who are now in custody. At least one police patrol vehicle suffered damage during the incident. The investigation is active as authorities determine how the person died.
City Council Approves New Annual Budget
The Houston City Council approved a new seven point five billion dollar budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Mayor John Whitmire proposed the spending plan, which includes a sweeping reform to incorporate the Solid Waste Department into Houston Public Works.
To help fund this adjustment, residents will notice a new five dollar monthly garbage fee attached to their municipal water bills. The approved budget also funds nearly three hundred new speed cushions across several city districts to slow down local traffic and improve neighborhood safety. The Houstonia article does a great job explaining all the highlights of the budget.
Coast Guard Ensures Fan Fest Safety
The United States Coast Guard has deployed specialized security teams to ensure safety at the FIFA Fan Festival in Houston. On June 30, a two-year-old Dutch Shepherd named Gama conducted explosive detection sweeps across the festival grounds alongside her handler.
This visible security presence is part of a coordinated effort with local and federal law enforcement partners to provide a safe environment for soccer fans. Security patrols will continue around the clock to protect public venues during the global tournament.

METRO AREA NEWS
Pearland Police Identify Robbery Suspect
The Pearland Police Department announced that detectives have identified a juvenile suspect accused of robbing an elderly man outside a Walgreens pharmacy. The incident occurred earlier this month when a seventy-nine-year-old veteran was assaulted and robbed of his cash and wallet in the parking lot.
Investigators have already arrested two adult suspects from Houston who allegedly participated in the crime. One adult served as the getaway driver while the other acted as a lookout. Both adult individuals face felony charges of aggravated robbery as the investigation continues.
Construction Halts for Historic Tomball Cemetery
An active construction site in Tomball was locked down after workers discovered historical headstones that date back to the early 1900s. City officials and local police officers responded to the location near Walnut Street and Commerce Street where an old building was being demolished.
The contractor immediately stopped all work and contacted local authorities to secure the area. The Tomball Police Department has fenced off the property to protect the site. Representatives from the local historical society will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact historical significance of the final resting place.

BUSINESS UPDATE
Regional Bank Merger Completed in Houston
Two prominent Texas financial institutions completed their large-scale merger on July 1 to create an expanded banking network. Prosperity Bancshares successfully finalized its acquisition of Houston-based Stellar Bancorp, integrating fifty-two branch offices into its operations.
Executive leadership from both organizations will take on major roles within the newly combined company. Stellar locations will continue operating under their original name until full operational integration finishes in early 2027. This financial move combines billions of dollars in assets to provide personal and commercial banking services across Texas and Oklahoma.
Medical Provider Expands Outpatient Footprint
A Houston-based physical therapy operator announced the successful acquisition of a large twelve-clinic medical practice effective July 1. U.S. Physical Therapy purchased a sixty-seven percent equity interest in the practice to expand its healthcare services into another state.
The newly acquired clinics currently generate over one hundred thousand patient visits and twelve million dollars in annual revenue. This strategic expansion grows the company's national footprint to forty-five states. Current clinic management will retain the remaining equity ownership and continue providing orthopedic care in their communities.

Astros Lose High Scoring Home Matchup
The Houston Astros suffered an 8-3 loss against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night at Daikin Park. Houston fell behind early when starting pitcher Tatsuya Imai allowed two home runs in the first two innings. Starting second baseman Raynel Delgado also had to leave the game early due to a dislocated finger on his right hand.
The local offense struggled against Minnesota pitcher Taj Bradley, who matched his career high by striking out eleven batters. Joey Loperfido and Nick Allen provided some late offensive highlights by driving in runs with singles during the sixth inning.
