A west Houston office building fire forced workers out Saturday afternoon and sent one Houston Fire Department captain to be evaluated for heat exhaustion. HFD said the attic fire started in the 6000 block of Richmond Avenue, and Deputy Fire Chief Bryan Sky-Eagle said investigators believe it may have started as an electrical issue.

No civilians were hurt. Sky-Eagle also said firefighters did not hear alarms or see sprinklers activate at the building. The fire remains under investigation.

Houston’s Pride parade now has a new date after weather and World Cup scheduling issues pushed the celebration off its original path. Pride Houston 365 announced the parade will be held Saturday, Aug. 15.

The 48th annual parade was first planned for June 6, but heavy rain canceled it just hours before it began, even though the downtown festival still went on. Organizers thanked the Mayor’s Office of Special Events for helping secure a new summer date.

Hot, hazy weather is expected to stay with Houston as Saharan dust and summer humidity keep the city feeling sticky. Forecasters said highs should sit in the lower to mid-90s, but the heat index may climb into triple digits.

The dust could also make air quality worse, especially as a stronger plume moves toward the coast late Sunday into Monday. Rain chances stay low for now, though a small shift next week could bring showers back by Wednesday.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Erika Serrato was killed early Sunday while helping secure a crash scene on I-45 North near The Woodlands. The sheriff’s office said deputies were responding to a multi-vehicle wreck when a heavy-duty truck towing a trailer struck Serrato and two marked patrol vehicles.

Another deputy was hurt by debris and later released from the hospital. Officials said Ashton Jammer, one driver in the original crash, was charged with DWI. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case remains under investigation.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family, loved ones, and the entire MCSO as they mourn the tragic loss of Deputy Erika Serrato in the line of duty.

The Texas Supreme Court has temporarily paused Harris County’s funding for a program that supports immigrants facing deportation. FOX 26 reported that the order stops the county from using money tied to the Immigrant Legal Services Fund or the Immigration Resource Hotline while the case continues.

Attorney General Ken Paxton challenged the program, arguing Harris County unlawfully gave public funds to private organizations. FOX 26 reported that Harris County officials have said they plan to fight the lawsuit.

The 1940 Air Terminal Museum at Hobby Airport is selling its remaining artifacts before leaving its longtime home June 30. The museum opened in 2004 inside the Art Deco terminal that served travelers from 1940 to 1978, but leaders said financial pressure forced the closure.

Items still listed Sunday included flight simulators and a DC-6 nose, each priced at $20,000. The museum said revenue no longer matched expenses, and a once-reliable fundraising source had dried up.

A new business travel guide shines a national spotlight on Houston’s work, hotel and food scene. WIRED points to the city’s energy roots, growing tech sector, major convention traffic, and airport connections as reasons business travelers keep landing here.

The guide also names local work spots like POST Houston, The Ion and HUB htx, plus restaurants and coffee shops useful for meetings. It is not a local government announcement, but it gives Houston a strong outside plug as a serious work city.
