Houston sports fans will see new entry rules at HISD athletic sites starting August 1. Each spectator may bring one clear bag. Most minors must enter with an adult and show a school ID, although HISD high school students may enter without an adult if they have identification.

Student-athletes are also exempt from the adult rule. Medical bags will be inspected, and clear diaper bags are allowed. Metal detectors and other security screenings will remain in place. The rules apply to UIL events at district athletic facilities, while campuses may set separate rules for other events.

Houston’s hottest stretch may ease slightly after a rare summertime cold front arrives this weekend. Temperatures could reach the upper 90s or briefly hit 100 degrees Saturday before the front moves south late in the day.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms may form Saturday afternoon and evening, with strong wind gusts possible in the heaviest storms. The front will not bring crisp or dramatically cooler weather, but it may lower humidity Sunday, especially north and west of Houston. Heat, humidity and isolated storms are expected to return early next week.

A Canal Street memorial will move before METRO begins repaving work. The memorial honors Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and his family asked that its items be protected instead of lost during construction.

A family representative and a LULAC member met with Houston’s Historical Research Center about preserving the collection. About 30 items were recovered and transferred to the Houston Public Library after a donor agreement was signed.

The collection will be stored at the research center while officials decide whether to add it to Houston’s Hispanic history and race and social justice collections.

League City leaders are seeking nine million dollars in grant funding for a major water project on the city’s west side. The proposed work includes a one-million-gallon storage tank, a new water well, booster pumps, a control building, a backup generator and chemical systems.

City documents say the Texas Water Development Board grant could cover the entire project. Leaders say new infrastructure is needed as League City grows and manages older wells, pump stations and pipelines. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and finish in early 2031.

A Baytown family is still searching for 16-year-old Sasha Meuchel, who has been missing since May 18. Baytown police and federal agencies are helping with the case, and investigators say she may be in the Katy or Humble area.

Surveillance video showed Sasha leaving her grandmother’s home around midnight with several belongings. Her phone was later turned off. Her mother said Sasha had never gone missing before and asked her to make contact so the family knows she is safe. Anyone with information is asked to call Baytown police.

A famous Royal Oaks mansion returned to the market for $11.99 million less than a year after it sold. The 20,900-square-foot estate once belonged to former NBA All-Star Nick Van Exel and appeared on MTV’s “Cribs.”

The home includes a bowling alley, 13-seat theater, infinity pool, two kitchens, two elevators and a 260-bottle wine display. It also has a 3,000-gallon aquarium with albino mini sharks and a 2,824-square-foot primary closet. The property sold in December 2025 for an estimated $7.8 million to $9 million.

A new Vintage Park clinic has opened and held its ribbon-cutting ceremony July 30. Transformations Center for Weight Loss first opened the Houston-area location in April at 118 Vintage Park Boulevard.

The business says it offers weight-management services involving diet, exercise and lifestyle changes. Family nurse practitioner Karlien Awuku leads the local clinic and has about a decade of nursing experience in public health, acute care, hospice and long-term care.

The center says its approach combines evidence-based medicine with nutrition, behavior coaching and personalized lifestyle strategies.
