HOUSTON RODEO TIPS - MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR VISIT

🎡 Every year the Houston Rodeo brings huge crowds, big concerts, and a lot to see. But if you have ever gone, you know not everything is worth the time or the money. Houstonia recently shared a simple rundown of what visitors usually love and what they say you can skip.

Trying new foods, riding the carnival rides, visiting the exhibitions, and checking out the Champion Wine Garden are all worth it. On the flip side, turkey legs, pedicab prices, and parking at NRG can be more trouble than they are worth. Plan it right and the rodeo can be a great day in Houston.

HOUSTON HEIGHTS SQUATTER DISPUTE NEAR POPULAR HIKE AND BIKE TRAIL

🚨 Neighbors near the Heights Hike and Bike trail say a house on Waverly Street has become a growing problem. Trash is piling up, the yard is overgrown, and residents say squatters have been living there for months.

The man staying in the home told reporters he bought the property. But court and property records show the house still belongs to the Windom family estate and no sale is recorded. Police have been called nine times in three months, but because the property is tied up in probate, neighbors say the situation remains unresolved.

HISD UNION LEADER WINS CASE AFTER DISTRICT TRIED TO FIRE HER

⚖️ A Houston teachers union leader may get her job back after a major ruling in her favor. An independent hearing examiner found that Houston ISD did not provide enough credible evidence to justify firing Michelle Williams, a 26-year veteran teacher and president of the Houston Education Association.

The examiner recommended that Williams be reinstated, saying she was never given a real chance to correct concerns raised by the district. The case now heads to the state appointed HISD board, which will decide whether to follow the recommendation.

HOUSTON COMIC ALI SIDDIQ EARNS NAACP IMAGE AWARD AFTER HUGE YEAR ON YOUTUBE

🎤 Houston comedian Ali Siddiq just picked up a 2026 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Variety Special for his 2025 special My Two Sons. The article notes it is the first independent comedy special to win in that category, a big milestone for a comic who has produced his work on his own.

Siddiq has released several YouTube specials that pulled in millions of views, and his Domino Effect series tells stories from his life growing up in Houston’s Third Ward. He is also helping other comedians release specials and is now touring the U.S., with plans for a European tour later this year.
