Two Houston gas stations are offering regular unleaded for $2.99 per gallon through noon Saturday, July 18. The deal is available at Now & Forever locations on West Bellfort Boulevard and Westheimer Road.

Customers must pay cash and enroll in the company’s free loyalty program onsite before fueling. The promotion arrives as AAA Texas reported the state average climbed 13 cents in one week to $3.55. The Houston metro average was about $3.42, while the national average was about $3.94.

A Houston judge dismissed nearly all claims filed by a group of Second Baptist Church members. Judge Grant Dorfman ruled that religious liberty and church autonomy kept the court from deciding whether the church unlawfully changed its bylaws or whether Ben Young should remain senior pastor.

The July 27 jury trial was canceled. One claim about changes to the trustee selection process survived because the judge said the church did not give members the required notice. The members also kept the right to seek an accounting of church assets and finances. Their attorney said they plan to appeal or seek clarification.

Hundreds of people attended Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s four-hour visitation Thursday at Great Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale. Houston Mayor John Whitmire was among those who came to pay their respects.

Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said local FBI agents are sharing evidence, but the Department of Homeland Security has not identified the ICE agent involved in the shooting. Teare said his office will seek the information needed for a full investigation. The Texas Rangers are also investigating. Salgado’s brother and two other van passengers remain detained in Conroe.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

CVS opened its first pharmacy-focused Houston location at 8503A Gulf Freeway in south Houston. The smaller store is designed to provide prescriptions, immunizations, pharmacist services and a customized selection of over-the-counter products.

The pharmacy-focused locations average about 3,000 square feet and include a full-service pharmacy. CVS said nearly 20 of these locations will open in select communities across the country. The company also plans two more pharmacy-focused locations in the Greater Houston area over the next year, along with more than 40 new CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide.

Houston DJ school Sound Dojo moved into a new studio in the Inner Loop earlier this year. The locally owned business held a June 28 grand opening that also marked its third anniversary.

Sound Dojo offers instructor-led DJ and production classes for different skill levels. Courses cover producing, mixing, transitions, effects and software. Beginner classes do not require prior experience, and Spanish-language courses are available. The school also offers a “First Spin” option that lets visitors try mixing and scratching beats on studio equipment. Sound Dojo is located at 2220 Commerce Street.

Construction at Galveston’s Margaritaville East Beach resort is becoming visible as crews assemble the first two modular cottages in the project’s initial phase. The planned $700 million to $800 million development calls for nearly 300 homes, a 15-story hotel, restaurants, bars, shops and a waterpark.

The work has renewed debate over Galveston’s “ghost wolves,” coyotes that carry an unusually high amount of endangered red wolf DNA. Princeton biologist Bridgett vonHoldt criticized language describing coyotes as nuisance animals and urged the developer to work with researchers and residents. RREAF Holdings says it follows environmental regulations, hired consultants and reserved land for wildlife.

A man accused of firing shots inside a Kroger on Cypresswood Drive has been identified and charged, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office. Deputies said the shooting may have started with a domestic disturbance between two men.

Officials identified the accused shooter as Kaden Ausbrooks. He remains hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his neck and is expected to be booked into the Harris County Jail after his release. The other man who was shot also remains hospitalized. Ausbrooks is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury.
